Script Analysis & Adaptation: Re-connecting Theme and Concept to your audience

Workshop Description:

This workshop examines examples of adaptation, the value with implementing adaptations in your critical discussion, and the process of reimagining “old” texts ways that makes them current for todays audience. We will collectively critique examples of successful film adaptations that have moved from the page to the stage, before collectively working though the dramatistic analysis process of answering the Who, What, When, Where, and Why. As a collective starting point, we will consider Susan Zedar’s popular children’s theatre text Wiley and the Hairy Man, and discuss ways to take a piece of dramatic literature geared toward a younger demographic, and conceptually reposition it to better serve teen and adult themes.
